Learning with digital technologies PLD for schools

Selection of schools for learning with digital technologies professional learning and development (LWDT PLD), funded by the Ministry of Education, is managed by Regional Ministry offices.

Accessing PLD and supplementary support for 2016

Professional Learning and Development (PLD) provisions and supplementary support available for 2016, plus information on how they can be accessed is in the Bulletin for school leaders from the Ministry of Education.

There will not be an application form this year.

In prioritising PLD for 2016, the Ministry will be seeking to support:

  • Communities of Learning with their achievement challenges
  • schools and kura in regional areas facing significant achievement challenges
  • schools and kura with a high number of students achieving below expected levels.

Who will get priority

From 2017, professional development will largely focus on a small number of national priorities in the areas of:

  • mathematics/pāngarau
  • science/pūtaiao
  • te reo matatini (pānui, tuhituhi, kōrero)
  • reading and writing
  • digital fluency.

The first national priorities will be in place for the next three to five years.

Access to professional development funding will be prioritised to:

  • Communities of Learning
  • schools/kura with a high number of students achieving below expected levels.

Some regions will be prioritised for professional development funding. The first regions are Northland and the Gisborne/East Coast district, which continue to have a persistent history of educational underachievement and poor employment outcomes for its young people.

Learning with digital technologies PLD programme

The LWDT PLD programme combines online and face-to-face support. The PLD may include guidance with:

  • developing and realising your school's vision for your students as connected, engaged, creative life long learners
  • e-learning strategic planning
  • integrating technologies into teaching and learning
  • developing your infrastructure
  • using technologies to connect with and engage your community
  • conducting a self-review using the e-Learning Planning Framework.

The system of support section on the NZC website has information about the everyday resources and tools available to learners, teachers, leaders, and schools. The purpose of these centrally funded and managed supports is to supplement a school’s improvement actions.

  • Professional learning and development – school-initiated supports – information about the professional learning and development (PLD) provision of support for leaders and teachers to improve student achievement outcomes, particularly for priority learner groups, across a number of identified areas.
  • Learning with digital technologies – information specifically about the LWDT PLD programme of support for school leaders and teachers who are involved in whole school e-learning capability review and development.
