ICT PD programme

The Information Communication Technology Professional Development (ICT PD) programme is a collaborative venture between the Ministry of Education and participating cluster schools.

From 2012, there is no further funding for ICT PD. Those schools and clusters that are working in the existing ICT PD programme will complete at the end of 2012. ICT PD professional development is transitioning to a regional programme that combines online and face-to-face support. 2010–2012 ICT PD clusters

All current ICT PD clusters running from 2010–2012 will continue until their contract is completed.

The Ministry of Education provides ICT PD clusters with ICT PD Online an online professional learning environment in the Virtual Learning Network (VLN). It is a space for clusters on the ICT PD programme to connect together. Each member of the ICT PD cluster community brings a different perspective, expertise and experience from which the whole community can learn. As a member of ICT PD Online you will develop a community of practice through:

  • sharing information about personal experiences and viewpoints at a collegial level
  • exploring ideas about effective practice with each other
  • sharing links to useful online classroom resources
  • making links between classroom practice and current research
  • modeling online learning situations
  • contributing to a national network of people with experience in the ICT field
  • gaining support by working with others
  • maintaining contacts across a geographically dispersed group
  • participating at a place and pace that suits you.

All the information needed by cluster members can be found in ICT PD Online and using the links below.

ICT PD cluster spaces in the VLN

Each cluster is required to create their own group in the VLN. Having a cluster group in the VLN gives members easy access to information and resources, and a space to facilitate discussions.

Sustainability

The authentic integration of ICTs within and beyond the contract to help improve teaching and learning outcomes, means sustaining:

  • values and vision
  • effective teaching and learning pedagogy
  • professional learning communities within/between schools
  • reliable and accessible infrastructure.

ICT PD survey findings 2009

These slideshare presentations highlight some of the keys ideas and trends found in the ICT PD end-of-year online survey feedback 2009. Use these presentations to help inform planning for sustainable change.

Research and readings

What Makes for Effective Teacher Professional Development in ICT?
Research by Vince Ham. This evaluation of the initial clusters between 1999 and 2001 focused on:

  • assessing the ingredients for successful cluster models of ICT teacher professional development
  • the effects of the professional development on classroom teaching and student learning
  • wider school effects of the professional development such as planning and administration.

This e-fellowship research project, by Mel Rodden, discusses how to sustain the learning and changes made within ICT PD cluster schools beyond the ICT PD contract.
